Privacy policy

Otterwick is a puzzle game by Maximilian Michler, An der Nafla 15a, 6800 Feldkirch, Austria ([email protected]), who is responsible for the processing described here. Otterwick shows no ads and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

What stays on your phone

Your village, progress, currencies, album and settings are saved on your device. If you use iCloud backups, Apple backs them up with the rest of your phone.

Game statistics (PostHog)

To see how the game is played and where it breaks, the app sends usage events to PostHog, on servers in the EU: which screens you open, boards you start, win or fail, how long a session or a board lasts, what you build and buy in the game, the app version, your device model and crash or freeze reports. Events never contain your name, your group names or invite codes. If you are signed in to Game Center, events are linked to your Game Center player ID. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Share Usage Data; the app then stops sending events. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a game that works (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Groups, daily results and “Top X %” (Google Firebase)

Features you play with others use Google Firebase, run in Google’s EU region (Belgium). The app signs in anonymously, which gives your install a random user ID. When you create or join a group, we store the group, the name you show in it, your results (swipes, time, attempt) and the stakes you confirm, so the other members can see the standings. If you allow notifications, your device’s push token is stored so the group can tell you when a round ends. For “Top X %”, only anonymous counts of swipes per board are kept; nothing there identifies you. When you leave a group, you are removed from it at once; when a group is deleted, its history goes with it. Legal basis: providing the features you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Google may process data outside the EU under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Game Center

If you sign in to Game Center, Apple provides your player ID and nickname for leaderboards and friends. Apple’s privacy policy applies to Game Center.

Purchases

Purchases go through Apple’s App Store. We never see your payment details; the app only receives Apple’s confirmation of what you bought.

This website

otterwick.app is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver the pages, Cloudflare processes your IP address and technical request data; we set no cookies and use no tracking on this site. Email to an @otterwick.app address is forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a working, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to its use, or receive it in a portable format, by writing to [email protected]. You may also complain to a data protection authority; in Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde (dsb.gv.at). Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date.
